Creating InfoObject Characteristic
Here are step by step how to create characteristic in SAP BW InfoObject Tree.
- In the initial screen of the Administrator Workbench, choose the function area Modeling ? InfoObjects.
- Create or maintain an InfoArea. InfoAreas constitute the uppermost evaluation criteria in the InfoObject and data target tree. The InfoObject tree contains InfoAreas beneath the initial InfoObjects node.
- Create or maintain an InfoObject Catalog with type characteristic. Here we can group Info Objects together to provide both a better overview of them and to arrange them logically (according to application-specific perspectives) for InfoObject Catalogs. An InfoObjectCatalog has the type characteristic or key figure. In other words, it contains either characteristics or key figures.
- Via the context menu for the InfoObject Catalog, choose Create InfoObject.
- Enter a technical name (3-9 characteristics) and long description for the characteristic (either a reference characteristic or a template characteristic) and confirm the entries.
- Maintain the tab pages of InfoObject Characteristic: General, Business Explorer, Master data/texts, Hierarchy, Attributes, and Compounding. When defining a characteristic, we need to enter at least the description, data type and length. All other settings on the General and other tab pages are optional.
- Save and activate the “new” characteristic.
While creating characteristic in SAP BW InfoObject, we must make sure they are activated before we can use the characteristics to structure other meta objects.
